Or is the content never scanned? If it is, why? Where does the data end up? Will you ever decide later on to scan all this data you’ve already collected? The Privacy Statement is long, convoluted, ambiguous, and confusing. "Unlike some other platforms, no matter what privacy options youĬhoose, neither Windows 10 nor any other Microsoft software scans the content of your email or other communications, or your files, in order to deliver targeted advertising to you." So MS apps scan the content of my files, but not to deliver ads? Part of the problem is the Privacy policy is extremely ambiguous and confusing. Other than the default settings, there are two other major privacy problems with Windows 10. Identity theft on such massive scales as we could see could bring down the global economy. It's quite appalling to me how little people truly think about the implications of what could happen if their data were stolen and sold to organized crime syndicates. This a year from now after letting Office expire, I likely won't know for sure. But I suspect even closing my account will not stop the hardware-identified data from being uploaded. I cannot close my account because we have 7 Office accounts that will terminate if I do. Now they are inconsistent with the wisdom of our ever-vigilant founders. Microsoft's privacy policies were always among the best until now. Why I have never used Facebook or Google.

I have read the privacy policies, all of them, over the years, which is That data also contains hardware identifiers which are linked to me. I'm using a Local Account with all privacy settings maxed, and still find that Microsoft is uploading data. The promise of social connectedness does not extend to me or others like me who wish to protect for my children the rights we have so taken for granted. The potentially wonderful social aspects of technology have been destroyed for me by the thoughtlessĮmbrace of privacy intrusion by business, congress and our legal system. I have no interest in Microsoft's vision of a "better experience." My interest is, as it has been since the early 80's, personal computing. The question has still not been answered - because nobody knows I suspect.
